Here’s what we’re watching in recent space-adjacent innovation.
Innovation This Week…
Mining.com reports the Copper Innovation Hub has launched in Columbia. Copper Innovation Hub, an initiative of Quintil Valley consulting, is a 10-company program aiming to lead a clean energy transition in the copper space.
What will the Copper Innovation Hub do?
The Copper Innovation Hub will act as a collaboration community between governments across the world. The Hub aims to enact “more socially responsible and environmentally friendlier” ways to extract copper.
Who are the Hub members?
Member nations include Colombia, Chile, Peru, Sweden, New Zealand and Australia. Mining partners include: Metalmax Mining, Libero Cobre, Max Resources, Minerales Córdoba, Minera de Cobre Quebradona, Minera El Roble, Royal Roads, Rugby Limited and International Materials. See Mining.com.
$$$$ and Metal
Also from Mining.com, the cost of copper rose on “a weaker U.S. dollar” on Tuesday (September 6) after the price had fluctuated the previous week.
Expectations for a better metals policy and stimulus package from China “boosted the metals complex,” on Monday.
Financial Times wrote on Monday that the recent changes in copper and iron ore prices have brought on fears of “global recession.”
Did you know?
In 2020, Popular Science called copper the “ultimate tool” for innovation. The magazine noted the many ages of human progress that copper has been a part of. From coins to electricity, copper has placed high on the list of important elements in human development.
Next Dawn’s News is watching copper’s role in the future of the Space Innovation Age with keen interest.
Copper and Space
Copper is an important element in many bleeding-edge innovations. Interesting Engineering writers that, in the future, micro-batteries may help “tiny robots tackle space.” These micro-batteries will be grain-sized, will be high-performance, and are made from crude stacked copper and zinc cells.
More Soon
Copper has had an important place in world progress, and we don’t foresee that changing. More updates on this precious metal’s role in world events are sure to come.
